Dope tests made mandatory for Jucsu candidates
A formal letter has already been sent to the university administration, requesting necessary arrangements to conduct dope tests for all eligible candidates
The Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) Election Commission has decided to make dope testing mandatory for all candidates contesting the upcoming Jucsu and hall union elections.
Professor Dr Md Moniruzzaman, chief election commissioner for the Jucsu elections, made the announcement tonight.
"We held a meeting with the candidates two days ago, where general students were also present. Although we initially did not consider the issue of dope testing, after evaluating the students' demands and feedback, the Election Commission unanimously decided to implement it," said Professor Moniruzzaman.
He further said that a formal letter has already been sent to the university administration, requesting necessary arrangements to conduct dope tests for all eligible candidates ahead of the polls.
Earlier on 31 August, the Jucsu Election Commission held a meeting with the candidates to discuss ways to ensure a healthy, transparent, and acceptable electoral environment on campus.
The long-awaited Jucsu elections are slated to be held on 11 September.
