Education Minister Dipu Moni today called upon the vice-chancellors of the country's public universities, including four that are run under 1973 Ordinance, to hold combined university admission tests.

The minister came up with the urge during a virtual meeting with the vice-chancellors of four public universities on reviewing the admission process.

Dipu Moni said, "There are huge possibilities of spreading coronavirus if the admission seekers move from place to place across the country."

"We prefer uniform admission tests so that an admission aspirant has to sit for only one admission test for some specific universities," she added.

"It would also be a great gift for the students on the occasion of Mujib Barsho and the golden jubilee of our independence if the admission tests are held in a uniform pattern," the minister said further.

Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, Jahangirnagar University VC Professor Farzana Islam, Rajshahi University VC Professor Abdus Sobhan, Bangladesh University of Engineering VC Satya Prasad Majumdar also spoke in the virtual meeting.

The education ministry in February this year had decided to hold the combined admission test.

But Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), Jahangirnagar University, Chittagong University and Rajshahi University have taken decisions to hold the examinations separately.
