CU withdraws expulsion orders for 6 female students
The decision was made at a meeting of the university’s Board of Residence, Health and Discipline yesterday (21 May)
The Chittagong University (CU) administration has revised its earlier disciplinary actions in an expulsion case, withdrawing orders against six female students and reducing the expulsion period for three others to six months.
The decision, which alters actions taken on 13 February against 12 students, was made during a meeting of the university's Board of Residence, Health and Discipline held yesterday (21 May), confirmed CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Md Kamal Uddin.
However, the permanent expulsion of one student – accused of physically assaulting a faculty member – remains in effect.

The six students whose expulsion orders have been revoked are: Elisha Swarna Chowdhury (2017-18, Institute of Marine Sciences); Fauzia Ahmed Polli Majumder (2018-19, Department of Communication and Journalism); Umme Habiba Brishti (2018-19, Department of Criminology and Police Science); Farzana Yasmin Putul (2019-20, Department of Banking and Insurance); Fatematuz Ashfia Nahar Esha (2022-23, Institute of Fine Arts); and Maisara Jahan Isha (2022–23, Department of Oceanography).
The three students who will now serve a six-month expulsion are: Rowjatul Jannat Nisha (Criminology and Police Science); Jannatul Mawa Mithila (2020-21, Criminology and Police Science); Mosammat Sumaiya Sikder (2021-22, Department of Marketing).
The permanent expulsion of Afsana Enayet Emi, a student of the Department of Law, has been upheld. She was accused of slapping Assistant Proctor Prof Md Korban Ali during an altercation.
"The permanent expulsion order for the student who physically assaulted a teacher remains in effect. Six others have had their expulsions withdrawn, and the remaining three will be suspended for six months," said Prof Kamal Uddin, adding that the revised disciplinary actions will take effect retroactively from 5 February.
The disciplinary measures stemmed from a 5 February incident when CU students from Bijoy 24 Hall (formerly Jananetri Sheikh Hasina Hall) attempted to dismantle a nameplate and a concrete boat structure in front of the hall.
The protest escalated into a confrontation involving students, teachers, and journalists. In the ensuing chaos, Afsana allegedly slapped a faculty member, leading to her permanent expulsion.
Nine other students were initially expelled for two years in connection with attacks on teachers, students, and journalists. The expelled students later staged protests, calling the disciplinary actions "a farce" and demanding a review.
