BMU's Tk976cr budget for FY26 approved
In the budget, Tk37.10 crore has been allocated for research, while Tk1.10 crore for training, totalling Tk38.20 crore for the research and training sector
The annual budget of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) of Tk976 crore 11 lakh 5 thousand for the fiscal year 2025-2026 was approved today (28 June) by the university's Syndicate.
The budget for this fiscal is Tk175 crore 12 lakh 70 thousand higher than of the budget for the fiscal 2024-2025 year, which was Tk800 crore 98 lakh 35 thousand. The projected budget deficit stands at Tk127 crore 87 lakh.
The budget was approved at BMU's 97th Syndicate meeting, held at the university's Shaheed Dr Milton Hall, with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam in the chair. The budget was presented by the University's Treasurer, Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar.

In the budget, Tk37.10 crore has been allocated for research, while Tk1.10 crore for training, totalling Tk38.20 crore for the research and training sector.
Besides, Tk87 crore has been earmarked for the medical and surgical (MSR) sector, while Tk217 crore 32 lakh and 50 thousand for student merit scholarships.
Further allocations include Tk9 crore for public works, while Tk25 crore 2 lakh and 50 thousand for goods and services, Tk40 crore 2 lakh and 50 thousand for machineries (capital) sub-sector, and Tk23 crore for cleaning.
On the other hand, Tk233 crore 26 lakh 31 thousand has been allocated for salaries, while Tk190 crore 27 lakh for allowances, and Tk45 crore 15 lakh 24 thousand for pension grants.
To meet the budget requirement, Health Education and Family Welfare Division would provide Tk568.37 crore, while Ministry of Education (through University Grants Commission) would give Tk144.86 crore and Tk135 crore would come from own income.
At a press briefing after the Syndicate meeting, Vice Chancellor Shahinul said that BMU has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kunming Medical University, China aimed at advancing academic and research collaboration.
He highlighted that 81 faculty members and 549 students have been awarded research grants, while 437 personnel have undergone specialised training to enhance budget implementation and procurement efficiency within the university.
The proposed budget for this fiscal year includes a boosted allocation of Tk 12 crore for the provision of free medicines to patients. Additional allocation has been earmarked for improvements in information technology, infection control measures, and the acquisition of books and periodicals.
