The Election Commission (EC) has formed 10 region-based committees to conduct further verification of the district- and upazila-level existence and activities of 10 political parties that applied for registration to contest the upcoming national polls.
In a letter signed by Md Nazmul Kabir, senior assistant secretary at the EC Secretariat, the commission today (12 October) said the committees will investigate the parties' presence and operations at district and upazila levels.
The commission reviewed investigation reports submitted by field-level officials but found some gaps and incomplete observations; following recommendations from a scrutiny committee, it directed a more detailed investigation, the letter added.
