EC finalises 66 local institutions as election observers

The Election Commission (EC) has finalised 66 local institutions as election observers to monitor the upcoming national election.
The tenure of the 66 election monitoring institutions will be five years, said an EC notice issued on Thursday (14 September).
It also issued a separate notice calling for new applications to increase the number of the election monitoring bodies.
The interested institutions have been asked to apply by 24 September. Organisations that failed to get registered in the first stage can apply again, reads the notice.
According to EC sources, a total of 199 private institutions applied to the commission to get registered as election observers. A seven-member committee of the commission scrutinised the applications and shortlisted 68 of them. Of the 68 organisations, two were dropped in final scrutiny.
