DU declares 3-day mourning over Khaleda Zia’s death; classes, exams suspended
As part of the mourning, all classes and examinations at the university will remain suspended on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, according to an official press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Office today.
Dhaka University (DU) has declared a three-day mourning starting today (30 December) following the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
As part of the mourning, all classes and examinations at the university will remain suspended on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, according to an official press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office today.
The university authorities have also arranged sufficient special transport facilities for DU teachers, students, officers and employees to enable them to attend Khaleda Zia's funeral prayer (janaza) scheduled for tomorrow (31 December).
The press release said the national flag at Dhaka University has been lowered to half-mast in observance of the mourning. Further programmes will be drawn up in line with the state's mourning schedule.
In addition, the university plans to organise academic seminars and other programmes highlighting the life and works of Begum Khaleda Zia, it added.
As part of the mourning activities, Quran khatam, prayers will be held from today at the university's central mosque, Masjidul Jami as well as at mosques in all halls, hostels and residential areas. Special prayer gatherings will also be arranged at other religious places of worship, the release said.
JU suspends classes, exams
As a mark of respect to the late former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities today suspended all administrative and departmental meetings.
According to a notification signed by JU's acting registrar ABM Azizur Rahman, The university also announced that all classes and examinations would remain suspended for the day.
Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6am today while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
In a condolence message, Jahangirnagar University expressed deep sorrow at her demise, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul, and conveyed profound sympathy to her bereaved family.
