DU cracks down on cyberbullying, tightens rules ahead of Ducsu polls
The administration has also ordered the removal of all campaign banners and billboards from the campus.
The Dhaka University (DU) has taken multiple measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) and hall union elections, as well as to curb cyberbullying.
In a letter to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), DU authorities requested the immediate shutdown of several online groups used by students, including "Dhaka University Nirapotta Mancha", "Dhaka University Shikkharthi Sangsad-1", and "Dhaka University Shikkharthi Sangsad-2".
The directive will remain effective until 10 September, according to a notice signed by DU Public Relations Office Deputy Director Forrukh Mahmud.
At the same time, the activities of the Green Future Foundation and its shuttle service have been suspended until the same date, following allegations that they could influence the election.
The administration has also ordered the removal of all campaign banners and billboards from the campus. Any candidate or group found offering services, distributing gifts, providing financial assistance, or arranging feasts will be considered in violation of the election code of conduct.
A timeline has also been set for campaigning. Candidates will not be allowed to run campaigns in halls or on campus before 25 August. Campaigning will be permitted between 26 August and 7 September, until 11pm each day.
However, social or welfare activities, public gatherings, and campaigning inside religious institutions will remain strictly prohibited during this period.
