DoE recommends avoiding single-use plastic and polythene in launches

Ahead of the Eid launch journeys, the Directorate of Environment (DoE) has urged passengers to avoid single-use plastics and polythene.
The DoE also requested that all waste be disposed of in designated bins on deck, rather than thrown into the river, said a press release.
The mobile court of the DoE also urged the supervisors and other staff of launches to take necessary steps to this end.
A mobile court led by executive magistrate of the monitoring and enforcement wing of the DoE conducted massive drive at Sadarghat Launch Terminal from 9pm to midnight on Friday in this regard.
The executive magistrate with the help of River Police inspected all the launches to see the overall condition of launches including plastic, polythene and waste management.
The magistrate also instructed the launch authorities to set up bins and asked the river police personnel to monitor it. Police also urged the people through loudspeaker to be careful about the consequences of misuse of plastic and polythene bags.
Besides, the DoE disconnected the electric line of a small factory of wastages batteries in Konabari area and sealed off it. Such operations by the DoE would be continued.
