Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) found larvae of aedes mosquito in 25 houses and apartment buildings during its drive on Wednesday. Of these, owner of an under-construction apartment building in Mirpur was fined Tk40,000 by the mobile court of DNCC.

“Besides, as many as 4,397 owners of house, apartments, and other establishments with stagnant water, which makes ideal breeding ground for aedes mosquitoes, were warned,” said DNCC executive officer SM Shafiul Azam, while adding that the city corporation officials destroyed those breeding hotspots.

DNCC inspected 1,14,010 houses, apartment buildings, and establishment since the city corporation embarked on a ‘combing operation’ on August 25 with the aim to destroy the breeding grounds of aedes mosquitoes. DNCC officials found aedes larvae in and around 1918 houses, buildings, and establishments during these anti-mosquito drives.

The officials at DNCC said, anti-mosquito campaigns will continue all year round, following directions of Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Dhaka North.
