DMP to fine up to Tk10,000 for honking near Dhaka airport from 25 Jan
Special mobile courts will also operate to impose fines or custodial sentences on offenders.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will start taking action against drivers who honk in restricted areas around Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Sunday (25 January).
According to a DMP notice in this regard, the government previously declared certain areas around the airport, including a 1.5-kilometre stretch from Scholastica School to Hotel La Meridien, as well as Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and Niketan, as silent zones in September 2025.
Honking in these areas is a punishable offence, and violators may face a fine of up to Tk10,000 or three months in jail, the notice stated.
The DMP traffic division will enforce the rule in the airport area, covering Civil Aviation Authority roads and parking zones.
Special mobile courts will also operate under the supervision of the Department of Environment, BRTA, Civil Aviation Authority, Dhaka North City Corporation, and DMP magistrates to impose fines or custodial sentences on offenders.
It also urged the drivers to comply with the Noise Pollution Control Rules 2025 and refrain from honking in the designated areas to maintain a peaceful environment around the airport.
