Dipen Dewan takes charge as minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs
Dewan has held key district-level BNP roles and now serves as co-religion affairs secretary of the national executive committee, playing an active role in local organisation and party programmes.
Former senior joint district judge and lawyer Dipen Dewan has officially assumed office as the minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs following the 13th national parliamentary election.
He was sworn in alongside the new cabinet members in a ceremony led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Mir Helal has been appointed state minister for the same ministry.
Elected from the Rangamati constituency, Dewan won with a record margin of 170,322 votes. He secured 201,544 votes under the sheaf of paddy symbol, while his closest rival, independent candidate Pahel Chakma, got 31,222 votes.
Before entering politics, Dewan served for 19 years in the judiciary. He also served as senior joint district judge. He resigned from the judicial service in 2005 to pursue politics.

He studied at the Rangamati Government College and the University of Dhaka, and has a law degree (LLB Honors) and was active in student politics during his college years.
