The Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon today warned that actions will be taken against onion traders if they sell the essential commodity at excessive price instead of the government fixed price.

"The traders must sell onion at the price fixed by the government. Otherwise, actions will be taken as per the mobile court act. The price of onion will not be allowed to increase abnormally rather special drives will continue to keep the price stable," he said.

Sayeed Khokon came up with the remarks while talking to journalists after visiting Palashi kitchen market in the city, said a press release.

Noting that prices of other essential commodities remain stable, Khokon said the Dhaka south today launched special drives through mobile courts against the hiking of onion price.

The drives will continue until the price comes back to normalcy, he added.

Urging the people not to store extra onion, Khokon said price of the essential commodities will be normal soon.

Asking wholesalers not to hoard onion, he warned that shops will be sealed off if traders sell onion in additional price.
