Dengue: 2 more die, 321 new cases recorded in 24hrs

Two more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Wednesday morning (16 July), raising the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 60 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 321 new patients were hospitalised with dengue, bringing the total number of infections to 15,906 since January.

Two of the deceased were women, one was 65 years old and the other was 19, DGHS said in a release.

Of the latest fatalities, one was reported in Dhaka South City Corporation and one in Barishal Division (outside city corporation areas).

Besides, Barishal Division alone reported 110 new cases, Chattogram Division (outside city corporations) recorded 31 cases, Dhaka Division (outside city corporations) reported 9, while 47 cases were detected in Dhaka South City Corporation, 27 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 27 in Khulna Division, 10 in Mymensingh division, 57 in Rajshahi, 2 in Rangpur division and one is Sylhet division.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.

According to the DGHS, there were 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries in the same year.
