Just half an hour after of confirming that actress Meher Afroz Shaon had been arrested on sedition charges, the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police changed its statement, saying that she has been taken into custody for questioning.

DB Chief Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the development at 8:34pm to The Business Standard about the arrest this evening (6 February).

Asked about the latest update on Meher Afroz Shawon's detention at 11:10pm, Rezaul Karim Mallick told TBS, "No decision has been made yet. The questioning is still ongoing."

Earlier at around 8:00pm, he had confirmed to TBS that DB members arrested the actress, who was also the wife of late Humayun Ahmed, on charge of sedition from Dhanmondi.

Her detention comes hours after her village home in Jamalpur was attacked and set on fire.

Students and locals reportedly torched the house near Norundi Railway Station in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila around 6pm.

This is the family home of Shaon's father Engineer Mohammad Ali, an Awami League nomination seeker for the Jamalpur-4 (Sadar) constituency in the 12th national parliament election. Her mother, Begum Tahura Ali, previously served two terms as a member of parliament from a reserved women's seat (1996-2001 and 2009-2014).

In the last general election, Shaon herself sought a parliamentary seat from a reserved women's quota as an Awami League candidate.
