CUET denounces police attack on protesting engineering students, demands justice
The CUET administration also called upon the authorities to ensure accountability, punish the perpetrators of the assault, and engage in meaningful negotiations with the student community.

The Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent police attack on engineering students, who were demonstrating to demand professional recognition and the elimination of quota discrimination in their service grades.
In a press release issued today (28 August), CUET Registrar (additional duty) Prof Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir described the incident as "unacceptable" and urged the authorities to take urgent steps to investigate the matter.
"We demand a fair and impartial probe into the attack and call for immediate legal action against those responsible. At the same time, we strongly insist on proper medical treatment and care for the injured students," the statement read.
The registrar further emphasised that the grievances of the country's meritorious engineering students must not be ignored. He underscored that their movement was rooted in rightful demands and therefore deserved dialogue and constructive solutions rather than repression.
"Replacing dialogue with violence and intimidation is never acceptable. As an institution, we are deeply shocked and aggrieved by the attack on students who were protesting peacefully for just causes," he said.
The CUET administration also called upon the authorities to ensure accountability, punish the perpetrators of the assault, and engage in meaningful negotiations with the student community. The statement concluded by urging swift and effective measures to secure justice and address the demands of engineering students peacefully and respectfully.
