Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain has inaugurated three development projects built at a cost of Tk21.64 crore in the Halishahar area.
He unveiled the plaques of a modern playground, a road, and a newly constructed bridge in Ward 25 (Rampur) and Ward 26 (North Halishahar) of the port city this afternoon (22 February).
Addressing the event, Shahadat said the initiatives were implemented to improve sports, communication, and environment-friendly infrastructure as part of efforts to build Chattogram into a modern and planned city.
He said the main goal of the road project is to eliminate waterlogging and maintain smooth traffic movement through sustainable infrastructure, reiterating that improving citizens' quality of life remains the primary goal of the city corporation.
Among the projects, the Halishahar H-Block residential area field was modernised at a cost of Tk1.70 crore.
Under the project, authorities constructed a seven-foot-wide walkway around the 40,000 square foot field. They developed a five-foot-wide landscaped garden beside the walkway and installed 132 garden lights in the field area.
In addition, the project includes a children's zone and facilities for indoor games such as tennis and badminton.
The mayor also inaugurated a one-kilometre-long and 35-foot-wide road built at a cost of Tk7 crore from Halishahar AC Mosque to WAPDA Intersection.
Authorities constructed drainage systems and walkways on both sides of the road to ensure safe pedestrian movement.
The largest project inaugurated by the mayor is a bridge over Mahesh Khal at a cost of Tk12.94 crore. The 23.70-metre-long and 10.50-metre-wide bridge will improve communication for residents of Wards 25 and 26.
Authorities also built approach roads and installed lighting alongside the bridge to support local commercial activities.
