Crude bomb blasts follow AL procession marking Hasina's birthday in Dhanmondi, 3 detained
A video is making the rounds on social media, showing a procession chanting slogans on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina's birthday and the bombs going off.
Two crude bombs exploded in succession in front of Meena Bazar on Road 27 in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area today (26 September), with police detaining three people in connection with the incident.
The explosions occurred at around 12:15pm, following a flash procession brought out by the activists of the activities-banned Awami League marking ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's birthday.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Imdadul Islam confirmed the incident, saying three people were later detained from the scene.

Police said several members had gathered there under the banner of the Awami League and carried out the incident. A video is making the rounds on social media, showing a procession chanting slogans on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina's birthday and the bombs going off.
OC Imdadul said an investigation into the incident is underway. He said the probe will determine who was involved in the explosions and what the motive behind the incident was.
Police went to the scene and collected evidence. The explosions caused panic in the area for some time.
