Woman calls 999 after allegedly killing husband with brick in Dhaka's Sabujbagh
Police say family dispute, alleged affair behind killing.
A woman allegedly killed her husband by hitting him on the head with a brick while he was asleep after giving him sleeping pills, then called the national emergency service 999 today (3 September) and reported the killing herself, police said.
The woman, Rehena Akter, 40, called 999 from the Nandipara Boro Mosque area of Sabujbagh in the capital, saying she had killed her husband, Mahfuzur Rahman, 40, last night (2 September), said Police Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of the national emergency service.
According to the National Emergency Service, Rehena told the call-taker, Constable Arif Hossain, that she had given her husband sleeping pills before striking his head with a brick while he was asleep.
Arif received the call, while 999 Police Dispatcher SI Awlad Hossain coordinated with and supervised Sabujbagh police over the incident.
Later, a team from Sabujbagh Police Station went to the reported location and arrested Rehena.
Police said their preliminary investigation suggests that Rehena was angry with her husband over family disputes and allegations that he was involved in extramarital relationships with other women.
Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway, police said.
