Police have arrested Tamanna Sharmin, wife of Chattogram's top criminal Sajjad Hossain, also known as "Chhoto Sajjad".

She was taken into custody around 10:30pm last night (10 May) from Baroi Para of the port city's Bahaddarhat area, said Bakalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ikhtiar Uddin.

He said Tamanna was arrested in connection with a double murder case in the Bakalia area. She had previously secured anticipatory bail from the High Court on 10 April but failed to surrender to the lower court after the bail period expired.

"She did not comply with the court's instructions to surrender, which is why we arrested her," Ikhtiar said.

"At the time of arrest, Tamanna claimed that she had surrendered to the lower court, but failed to produce any supporting documents", he added.

Earlier, on the night of 15 March, police arrested her husband Sajjad from Bashundhara City in the capital.

Just two weeks later, around 2:15am on 29 March, two people were shot dead by unknown assailants in a car on Bakalia Access Road.

On 1 April, Firoza Begum, mother of one of the victims named Mohammad Manik, filed a murder case at Bakalia Police Station accusing five people, including Sajjad and Tamanna.

Currently in jail, Chhoto Sajjad faces at least 15 criminal cases, including charges of murder, illegal arms possession, and extortion.

Meanwhile, following Sajjad's arrest on 15 March, a video clip of Tamanna went viral on social media, where she was seen promising to bail her husband out despite the multiple charges against him.

In the video, Tamanna was heard saying, "We will pay bail money, bundle by bundle, to bring my husband back. Those responsible for what has happened will not be spared."

She had even said that she would bail out her husband within 10 to 12 days.
