Video of attempted abduction of woman in Moulvibazar goes viral, case filed
Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Sreemangal Circle, Md Wahiduzzaman Raju, said today that a case has been filed over the incident.
A video showing an attempt to abduct a young woman by a car in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar yesterday evening (8 March) has gone viral on social media, with the intended victim later filing a case at Kamalganj Police Station.
Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Sreemangal Circle, Md Wahiduzzaman Raju, said today that a case has been filed over the incident.
"The young woman has filed the case as the plaintiff. We are trying to identify those involved, but no arrests have been made so far," he added.
According to the case filed by Fatema Parvez Nishi, she works at a private organisation in Sreemangal. As usual, she was waiting for transport at Bottola Bazar at around 6:30am to go to her workplace.
She said a white car had been circling the market area repeatedly. Several young men inside the vehicle approached her and asked her to get into the car, saying they were heading towards Sreemangal, Nishi added.
However, she declined the offer as their behaviour appeared suspicious.
Nishi said that after some time, when the market became less crowded, she began walking back towards her home. At that moment, the same car returned and stopped near her.
"One of the youths got out of the car and tried to forcibly push me into the vehicle while holding my hand and covering my mouth," she said.
"I started shouting, and when they realised that people nearby were noticing the situation, they quickly fled towards Sreemangal in the car."
Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Awal said police are investigating the matter.
"After receiving the complaint, police started looking into the matter seriously. Efforts are underway to quickly identify and bring those involved in the attempted abduction under the law," he said.
