Two Rohingya robbers killed in a ‘gunfight’ at Teknaf

Two Rohingya robbers were killed in a gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf on early Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Hakim (35) and Rashid (30). The local Rohingya identified them as active members of the robber Jokir gang.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Abdullah Mohammad Sheikh Sadi, Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-15 said, "Working on a tip-off, RAB went to the hilly area of Jadimura Rohingya camp-26 looking for a group of Rohingya robbers who were hiding there."

"Sensing presence of RAB, the robber group started firing bullets and RAB also fired back in self-defence," he added.

Abdullah Mohammad further said, "While searching after the firing had stopped, two were found shot. Doctors declared both of them dead after they were taken to the Teknaf hospital. 

The dead bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Hospital's morgue for post-mortem.  Cases will be filed under separate laws, informed Abdullah Mohammad.

Few RAB members were injured in the shootout. Several local weapons and firearms were recovered.
