Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the rapist and his associate from Dhaka's Mirpur area on allegation of raping a woman while collecting blood for her ailing husband.

The detainees are Monwar Hossain alias Sajib and Mashnu Ara Begum alias Shilpi.

RAB-2 Deputy Commander, Major HM Parvez Arefin said, "The incident took place on September 15 afternoon when the victim's husband suddenly fell ill and admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital."

"The victim rushed to the blood bank on the second floor of the hospital in search of blood as the doctor advised her husband needed blood donation urgently," he added.

Monwar Hossain promised to arrange blood for her and contacted the victim the following day.

On September 17, Monwar took the housewife to Shilpi's house in Mirpur's Manipur area, saying that blood had been collected. There, Monwar with the help of Shilpi raped her and threatened to kill her if she screamed for help.

The victim kept the matter secret at first in fear of public embarrassment and her husband's illness.

But on Thursday (September 24) evening, the victim told her husband about the incident when the rapist called to meet him again, saying that blood had been collected.

Later, the victim and her husband lodged a complaint.

The RAB official further said that none of the accused are from the blood bank of the hospital. The accused rapist's mother was being treated at the same hospital.
