Three members of the Detective Branch (DB) police were injured in an attack by "drug dealers" during an anti-narcotics operation in Lauhajang, Munshiganj, on Monday (17 March) night.
The incident occurred around 8pm at Goalimandra Bazar after a DB team conducted a raid following intelligence reports about a large yaba shipment.
DB constable Asif Uddin, who sustained serious injuries, has been admitted to Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital in Dhaka, while the other injured officers received first aid.
Ishitaq Ashfaq Russell, officer-in-charge of the district DB, said, "A group led by Mahmud, a known drug dealer in the upazila, was present at the location. As soon as they realised the presence of police, they attacked the DB members, injuring three officers before fleeing."
He added that preparations are underway to file a case at Lauhajang police station for obstructing police work and assaulting officers.
Superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarkar said, "The DB officers were suddenly attacked during the operation. One of the injured is currently receiving treatment, and police operations are ongoing to apprehend those involved.
