The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three individuals with Tk1 lakh in counterfeit currency from the Gulistan area in the capital last evening (2 June).

The arrestees have been identified as Sagar (30), Md Al Amin Hawlader (28), and Babu Matbor (54), said a press release issued by the DMP media wing.

Acting on a tip-off that some individuals were attempting to sell fake currency in the area, a team of Wari Division  DB conducted a drive in front of the Gulistan Shopping Complex around 7:30pm, reads the statement.

During the operation, the DB team arrested the trio and recovered counterfeit notes amounting to Tk1 lakh from their possession.

"The accused, with a history of criminal records, had been involved in circulating fake notes in shops and businesses across Dhaka," reads the press release, adding that the accused allegedly planned to distribute counterfeit currency on a larger scale.

A case has been filed under the Special Powers Act at Paltan Police Station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
