Teenage factory worker raped after being lured with job offer in Gazipur

A teenage girl was allegedly raped in Gazipur's Sreepur yesterday (15 June) after being lured with the promise of a higher-paying job.
The 14-year-old, who has mild disabilities, was reportedly taken from an ATM booth of Talha Spinning Mills Ltd to a nearby room and raped by the booth's security guard, Md Liton Mia, 40, according to a case filed at the local police station.
"The girl was lured by the accused through a phone call to her father with the promise of a job. Taking advantage of her condition, she was raped. The accused has been on the run since. We've filed a case and are working to arrest him," Gazipur Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Mohammad Jaber Sadeq said.

The girl's father, a day labourer from Netrokona's Kalmakanda, filed the case at Sreepur Model police station.
He said the accused had earlier become acquainted with his daughter when she used to withdraw her salary from the booth.
"My daughter, who is 14 years old, previously worked at Ekota Factory for a salary of Tk6,000. My daughter used to withdraw money from the ATM booth where Liton Mia works, and through this connection, he spoke to my daughter. At one point, he told her that he could get her a job at Talha Spinning Mills with a higher salary," said the girl's father.
"Following this, around 6am on 15 June, Liton called me and said that if I sent my daughter, he could get her a job with a salary of Tk12,000. Trusting his words, I sent my daughter. Later, when I went twice to inquire about my daughter's job, he told me not to worry about the job and sent me away," he added.
"I work on a daily wage basis. My daughter is somewhat disabled. Liton Mia called my daughter, luring her with the promise of a higher-paying job, and then forcibly raped her. I demand justice for this," he added.
Sreepur Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md Abdul Barek, said, "The case was filed immediately after the complaint. The survivor has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for medical examination, and we are trying to arrest the accused."
