A teacher at Pagla High School in Narayanganj's Fatullah has been arrested on charges of confining and raping four school students.

The accused Mizanur Rahman, 45, was apprehended last night from Dhaka's Mohammadpur area, Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam told The Business Standard today (25 June).

He was formally shown arrested in a case today, filed by one of the victims' families. Mizanur was subsequently sent to jail by court, the OC said.

OC Shariful added that Mizan is also facing pending charges related to pornography and rape with a police station in Dhaka.

According to the police officer, Mizanur resided in Mohammadpur and worked as a part-time teacher at Pagla High School. During school holidays, he would conduct art and computer classes every Friday. On 6 June, Mizanur lured two tenth-grade students to his residence with various promises.

"He then confined and repeatedly raped them until his arrest," he said.

OC Shariful further said, "In a similar manner, on 11 June, he brought another tenth-grade student to his house, confined her, and raped her. Finally, on the 23 June, he took yet another tenth-grade student and raped her as well.

"Among the victims, one student managed to escape from the house and returned home, where she revealed the horrific details. She subsequently informed the families of her three friends and also notified the police, leading to a police raid in Mohammadpur last night."

During the operation, police rescued the three confined schoolgirls and arrested Mizan, the officer said.
