RAB arrests 2 top terrors in Kibria murder case
Accused Pata Sohel alias Monir Hossain and Sujan were detained from Dhaka's Savar and Tongi areas last night (18 November)
RAB has arrested two more accused, identified as Pata Sohel alias Monir Hossain and Md Sujan alias Bukpora Sujan, both named in the murder case of Pallabi unit Jubo Dal member-secretary Golam Kibria.
They were detained from Dhaka's Savar and Tongi areas last night (18 November), confirmed Major Mohammad Abrar Faisal Sadi, media officer of RAB-4.
They are active members of the Mirpur-centric terrorist group "Four Star", said RAB-4 Commander Lt Col Md Mahbub Alam during a media briefing about the arrests at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar today (19 November).
Citing initial interrogations of the arrested individuals, RAB has stated that the murder was carried out over political rivalry and a struggle for dominance. They also said it was a premeditated killing involving a large financial transaction. The suspects are professional killers and have multiple cases filed against them in various police stations.
The two individuals are among the five accused named in the murder case filed by Kibria's wife, Sabiha Akhter Dina, at Pallabi Police Station. The case also accused 7–8 unidentified persons.
The arrests come a day after another accused, Md Jony Bhuiya, was detained by locals while fleeing the scene and later gave a confessional statement in court. On Tuesday (18 November), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman recorded his statement and ordered him to be sent to jail, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Prosecution Division sub-inspector Shahadat Hossain confirmed.
Investigating officer Mohammad Hanif, inspector of Pallabi Police Station, submitted the petition for recording Jony's confession after the accused expressed willingness to give the statement.
According to the case statement, Kibria often visited "Bikrampur Hardware and Sanitary" to meet his friend Masud Rana on Monday.
At around 6:42pm, Jony, Sohag Kalu and Rokon entered the shop and opened fire on Kibria. Sohel alias Pata Sohel alias Monir Hossain, and Masum alias Bhagina Masum, allegedly masterminded and instructed the killing.
Kibria sustained multiple bullet injuries and was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
CCTV footage from inside the shop, which later circulated on social media, shows several assailants entering moments after Kibria and firing repeatedly.
One attacker was wearing a panjabi and the others shirts; all wore helmets and masks. Nine people were inside the shop at the time. After Kibria fell, one assailant fired three additional rounds before leaving.
The autopsy report by Dr Nashat Jabin, assistant professor at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, stated that 18 injury marks were found on Kibria's body and that "he died from gunshot wounds".
