RAB arrests three over Shariatpur village doctor Khokon murder
A team of RAB-14, CPC-2, Kishoreganj Camp, led by Company Commander ASP Shahjahan, arrested the three accused around 1am today from the Bajitpur area of Kishoreganj.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three accused named in the murder case of village doctor and businessman Khokon Chandra Das in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur, following overnight raids in Kishoreganj.
According to a press statement from the Chief Adviser's Press Wing, an operational team of RAB-14, Crime Prevention Company-2 (CPC-2), Kishoreganj Camp, led by Company Commander ASP Shahjahan, arrested the three accused around 1am today (4 January) from the Bajitpur area of Kishoreganj.
The operation was conducted based on intelligence provided by RAB-8 and the Intelligence Wing in Dhaka.
The arrested accused are Sohag Khan, 27, Rabbi Molla, 21, and Palash Sardar, 25, all residents of Koneshwar union in Damudya upazila. They were named in the first information report (FIR) filed in connection with the case.
RAB-8 Company Commander Mir Monir Hossain confirmed the arrests and said further details would be shared through a formal briefing.
Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Rownak Jahan said that before his death, Khokon Chandra Das had identified the accused by name. She added that the victim was a pharmacy owner and bKash agent.
According to police and family members, the attack took place around 9:15pm on Wednesday (31 December) at Keorbhanga Bazar in Koneshwar union, as Khokon Chandra Das was returning home after closing his shop.
The assailants allegedly hacked him with sharp weapons, causing severe injuries, and later poured petrol on his body and set him on fire before fleeing the scene.
Locals rescued him in critical condition and took him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the National Burn Unit and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka, where he died around 8am yesterday (3 January) while undergoing treatment.
Following his attack, Khokon's father, Paresh Chandra Das, filed a case at Damudya Police Station late Thursday night (1 January), initially as an attempted murder case.
The victim's body was cremated last night at his home village of Tiloi in Koneshwar union.
Police said the arrested individuals are known locally for criminal activities and drug use.
Locals said the arrests have brought some relief to the area, but they continue to demand a speedy trial and exemplary punishment for those involved.
