Plaintiff orchestrates the killing of a woman: PBI

The plaintiff in the case is the mastermind behind the murder of a woman in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said.

Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the PBI's Brahmanbaria unit, made the announcement at a press conference held at his office on Tuesday.

Rafiza Khatun, a divorced woman who lived in her father's home, was hacked to death by some miscreants at Rampur village in the upazila on 31 December 2018, according to the case statement.

On 7 January 2019, Musa Mia, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case, accusing 52 people of his rival group in the village.

Two years after the brutal incident, the investigation was assigned to the PBI, during which they identified Musa Mia, the plaintiff of the case, as the mastermind behind his sister's murder, the SP also said.

The PBI said Musa Mia, son of late Darbesh Mia of Rampur village, and his associates killed Rafiza to implicate their rivals in the murder case.

Musa Mia had a rivalry with one Abu Kalam over the possession of a khas land in Rampur village. Following the dispute, both groups clashed over the land on December 31, 2018, resulting in the death of one of Abu Kalam's supporters. After receiving the news, Musa Mia planned to kill his sister and frame his rival.

Following a thorough investigation, the PBI uncovered the mystery behind the murder and arrested three people involved in the incident, viz., Sohag Mia, 25, brother of Musa Mia; Akkas Mia, 45, son of Md Siraj Mia; and Parash Mia, 45, son of late Sadat Mia.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees pleaded guilty to the murder and said they planned the killing was done to implicate their rivals.

SP Shakhawat Hossain said the arrestees will be produced to the court to record their confessional statements under section 164.  Efforts are currently ongoing to arrest all the accused, including Musa Mia, the mastermind of the murder.
