Pabna couple ordered to vacate govt residence over killing of eight puppies
A delegation from "Animal Welfare" will meet the UNO and advise on the legal steps required
A government official was ordered to vacate his residence within a day yesterday (1 December) over killing eight puppies by sealing them in a sack and drowning them in a pond in Pabna's Ishwardi.
Following the order, Hasanur Rahman Noyon, an officer from Small Farmers Development Foundation, and his wife Nishi Begum vacated their Upazila Parishad Staff Quarter today (2 December).
Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Moniruzzman confirmed the development to The Business Standard.
"The administration held a meeting with officials after the incident came to light.
"Based on the meeting's decision, Noyon was instructed on the night of 1 December to leave the residential building. They vacated the house today in compliance with the directive," the officer said.
Upazila Livestock Officer Aklima Khatun said a delegation from "Animal Welfare," a Dhaka-based animal rights organisation, is already on their way to Ishwardi after the incident drew public attention.
The delegation will meet the UNO and advise on the legal steps required.
Yesterday, Nishi Begum, a resident of the Upazila Parishad Staff Quarter, was accused of placing eight puppies inside a sack and drowning them in a nearby pond. Locals later recovered the bodies from the sack.
The incident triggered widespread outrage on social media, with citizens and animal welfare groups demanding legal action against those responsible.
