Mother, daughter slaughtered in Lakshmipur, gold ornaments looted

A woman and her daughter were killed by slitting their throat at their home in Ramganj Upazila of Lakshmipur last night (9 October).

The deceased were identified as Julekha Begum, 55, wife of Mizanur Rahman, a crockery trader from Sonapur Bazar, and their daughter Tanha Akter Mim, 19.
Police and locals said Mizanur, a trader at Sonapur Bazar, and other members of the house were at the market when his wife Julekha and daughter Mim were alone at home. Taking advantage, assailants entered, killed them, and looted gold and valuables. Family members later found the bodies on the floor, and neighbours rushed in after hearing screams.
Local resident Mahmud Faruk said the killers fled after slaughtering the mother and daughter. A large number of police and locals gathered soon after the news spread.
Lakshmipur Assistant Superintendent of Police Jamilul Haque said the perpetrators are yet to be identified. A Police Bureau of Investigation team has collected evidence from the scene, and no one involved will be spared.
