Moosa Bin Shamsher quizzed at DB office

Controversial businessman and manpower exporting agency DATCO's founding Chairman Moosa Bin Shamsher and his family members were interrogated by Detective Branch (DB) of police on Tuesday over alleged involvement with money embezzlement committed by Moosa's former law adviser Abdul Quader using a fake identity.

Moosa Bin Shamsher, his son and wife went to DB office at Minto Road around 3:00pm and were quizzed for over three hours.

DB joint commissioner Harun-or-Rashid told journalists that the businessmen cannot avoid responsibility and he might be involved with the swindling committed by Quader.

DB sources said Quader embezzled large amounts of money for the past 14 years using his fake identity. He was finally arrested along with three others from Mirpur on 7 October.

Other arrestees were Quader's second wife, Sharmin Chowdhury; his office manager, Shahidul Alam; and office assistant Anisur Rahman.

DB officials said Quader used to pose as an additional secretary of ministry of public administration. He managed fake identity card as government employee and frequently visited the Secretariat for lobbying on different projects.

Quader used to introduce himself as legal advisor to Moosa and custodian of his wealth.

Soon after his arrest, Quader's photo with Moosa surfaced in social media and DB investigators traced out financial transactions between them.

The businessman left DB office in the evening. Before leaving DB compound, Moosa told reporters that he was victimised by Quader and would prosecute him.

The businessman said that Quader took some photos with him and used those to cheat others and he has nothing to do with the fraudulences.

Abdul Quader, who does not have any legal source of income, has two houses in Gazipur area and also has a huge amount of money in his numerous bank accounts, DB officials said.
