Mohila AL leader arrested in Gazipur

Police arrested Shahida Akhter Josuda, organising secretary of the Gazipur district unit of the Mohila Awami League, from her residence in the Uttar Chhaya Bithi area of Gazipur city on Tuesday (13 May).
Confirming the arrest made at around 2am, Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Halim said Josuda is accused in a case filed over an attack on a rally during the mass uprising in the Joydebpur area.
According to police sources, Josuda was previously a reserved seat member of the Bhawalgarh Union Parishad. During the Awami League's tenure, she was also involved in the scrap fabric (jhut) trade, sourcing materials from local garment factories.
OC Abdul Halim further stated that intelligence reports suggest Josuda has recently been financing unrest in the garment sector, allegedly aiming to create instability following the arrest of Narayanganj Mayor Salina Hayat Ivy.
"She is suspected of inciting worker protests and being linked to several incidents of factory vandalism and provocation after 5 August," he said.
Police plan to present Josuda before the court initially in connection with the anti-discrimination rally attack case. They will then seek remand for further interrogation based on other intelligence findings, Halim added.
