Man stabbed to death over trivial matter in Gazipur

A man was hacked to death in Gazipur Sadar area on Friday following an altercation with some local youths over a trivial matter.

Md Saiful Islam, brother of the victim Sadeq Ali, filed a case with Sadar Police Station -- with four individuals by name and four/five anonymous persons.

Police have arrested six people including four accused of the case by conducting raids in different places of the city on that night, Gazipur Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner (Crime and Media) Zakir Hasan said this at a press briefing held at the police station on Saturday afternoon.

The arrestees are: prime accused Kawser Ahmed Akash of West Bhurulia area, Md Mehedi Hasan Bijoy and Badol Chandra Biswas of Mid Chayabithi area, Md Shamim of Mariali-Kalabagan area, Imon Ahmed of Kaliganj upazila's Kalapatua area, Mobarak Hossain of Kumun area of Sadar upazila.

Zakir Hasan said Sadeq Ali went to a grocery shop near his house to buy biscuits for his son around 9pm on Friday. There he got involved into an altercation over a trivial matter with the accused youths. At that time, locals prevented them and let Sadeq go home.

But the accused called Sadeq back to the street from his house. At one point, the accused randomly beat Sadeq and hit him in the neck with a Chinese ax. The assailants fled after confirming his death.

During the preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed their involvement in the incident. Further investigation of the case is going on.
