Man held for raping teenage girl in Faridpur
Police say the accused reportedly lured the teenager with the promise of mangoes
Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly raping a teenage girl by luring her with the promise of giving her mangoes in Chandani village under Gunbaha union of Boalmari upazila, Faridpur.
The accused has been identified as Faizul Molla, 32.
Confirming the incident, Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalmari Police Station, said that acting on information, a police team rushed to the spot yesterday afternoon (5 June), arrested the accused, and took the victim into custody for a medical examination.
"The victim was sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Faridpur Medical College Hospital this morning for her medical test. The process of filing a regular case regarding this incident is currently underway," the OC added.
According to family sources, the victim's father serves as a muezzin at a local mosque, while her mother works as a domestic helper in different households. Faizul had reportedly been harassing the girl for a long time, taking advantage of her parents' absence.
Taking further advantage of his own wife being away on a visit, Faizul found the girl alone yesterday at noon. He lured her into his house under the pretense of offering her mangoes and then allegedly raped her against her will.
Hearing the victim's screams, her aunt rushed to the spot and rescued her from Faizul's house.
Sensing the presence of locals, the accused initially tried to flee, but locals managed to chase him down and detain him in a house until police arrived.
