Man ‘attempts to kill himself’ after killing two sons in Dhaka’s Pallabi
One of the sons was aged seven while the other was only three years old

A man reportedly attempted to kill himself after killing his two minor sons at the family's residence in Dhaka's Pallabi this morning (16 November), said police.
Notified soon after the incident, police rushed to the scene and found the bodies of the children. They then took the man, identified as Md Ahad, 40, to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.
Confirming the development, officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mirpur Division told The Business Standard that one of the boys was aged seven while the other was only three years old. Their identities were yet to be confirmed.
Police also said the killings and the reported suicide attempt could have taken place following a family dispute, and over financial hardships.
Citing Pallabi police, media reports said Ahad slit the throats of both children before trying to kill himself in the same manner inside their rented home in the Baigartek area at around 10:30am today.
Ahad, who is currently undergoing treatment at DMCH for critical injuries to his throat, worked as a security guard while his wife worked as a domestic worker. The wife was at work at the time of the incident, said police.
Police said they recovered a bloody knife while the forensic team of the Criminal Investigation Department were collecting other evidence from the crime scene, according to media reports.
