Police today (22 March) arrested a man in a case filed under the Women and Child Abuse Act for sexually harassing a 12-year-old boy in Lohagara municipality of Chattogram.

The arrested was identified as Nurul Islam, 42, son of Abdus Salam of Chhamdar Para village of Satkania municipality.

Confirming the arrest, SI Zahed Hossain, second officer of Lohagara Police Station, said, "Nurul went to buy betel leaves from a shop at Amirabad Battali Motor Station in Lohagara around 12:15am on 11 March.

"Seeing the child alone in the shop, he tried to assault the child sexually. Feeling uncomfortable, the victim went to a nearby safe place and protected himself. The perpetrator fled immediately after the incident."

A video of the incident went viral on social media Facebook, he added.

SI Zahed said, "Later, the victim's father filed a complaint with the police station in this regard. The police identified him after watching the video and arrested him this afternoon and brought him to the police station.

"He will be sent to court tomorrow morning."
