Police have arrested an Indian citizen on charges of attempting to rape a 9-year-old child by luring her with chocolate in Cumilla's Daudkandi.

The arrested individual has been identified as Tajindar Singh (50), son of Pal Singh from Basipatthana village in Chandigarh of India's Punjab, said Officer-in-Charge of Daudkandi Model Police Station Md Junayet Chowdhury.

The attempted rape took place yesterday (20 March) morning at a rented house in Raipur Singula village of Daudkandi upazila, said police.

According to police, the accused Indian citizen Tajindar Singh has been working as an engineer at a factory called Agro Ambus Limited in the Mohammadpur area of the upazila for a long time.

He had rented a house in Singula village.

On Thursday (20 March) morning, Tajindar lured the child by offering chocolate and took them to his room. Inside the room, he allegedly touched sensitive parts of the child's body.

Another child witnessed the incident and informed the victim's mother. Locals came forward and detained the accused Tajindar, said police.
