Imam arrested under CSA for offensive remarks about Khaleda Zia

Ashulia police have arrested a local mosque imam for allegedly making vulgar, indecent, and defamatory remarks about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a Facebook post.
"The accused Md Ebadul Islam, 31, arrested from Barisal's Wazirpur, in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act, 2023, yesterday night," Ashulia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Kamal Hossain told The Business Standard today (8 April).
Ebadul was produced before a court today with a request for a 7-day remand, the inspector added.
According to police sources, the incident stemmed from a Facebook post published on 5 April on the topic "Joint Initiatives of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and BNP." Ebadul allegedly used his personal Facebook ID to make offensive and insulting comments directed at Khaleda Zia in the comment section of the post.
After the post came to the attention of Ataur Rahman, senior joint secretary of Ward No 6 Jubo Dal in Ashulia's Dhamsana union, filed a case yesterday at Ashulia Police Station under the Cyber Security Act, naming Ebadul as the accused.
