Haji Selim, Chhatra League’s Saikat shown arrested in Shaon murder case
Shaon was killed after being shot near Eden College in Dhaka during the July Uprising
Former Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Selim and Tanvir Hasan Saikat, general secretary of the banned Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, have been shown arrested in the case filed over the murder of electrician Shaown Sikder.
Shaon was killed after being shot near Eden College in Dhaka during the July Uprising.
In a separate attempted murder case filed with New Market police station, former Chhatra League education affairs secretary Mukib Mia was also shown arrested.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq today (3 September) granted the police plea to show them arrested after investigators produced the accused before the court.
Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
According to the murder case statement, Shaown was shot dead on 19 July last year while returning home through Eden College.
On 21 January this year, Iqbal Majumder Touhid filed a case with Lalbagh police station, naming 40 accused, including Sheikh Hasina, identifying himself as a relative of the victim.
The attempted murder case statement said shots were fired on 2 August at a peaceful student-public rally near New Market Gate No 2, injuring complainant Habibur Rahman and several Dhaka College students. On 26 August, Habibur filed the case with New Market police station.
