Gold worth Tk1.7 crore recovered from passenger at Ctg airport

Officials at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram have thwarted an attempt to smuggle gold worth approximately Tk1.7 crore.
The gold was concealed inside a mobile phone adapter and disguised as a watch chain inside an AirPods case.
The contraband was recovered from the luggage of Mohammad Moksud Ahmed, a passenger who arrived from Sharjah on Air Arabia flight G9-526 on Monday morning (7 April).
According to Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer of Shah Amanat International Airport, Moksud Ahmed was acting suspiciously while attempting to pass through the green channel without declaring the gold to customs.
This prompted a joint search of his baggage by officials from Customs, AVSEC, the Air Force Task Force, and the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
During the inspection, the hidden gold was discovered in his possession.
Experts were called in to verify the composition of the gold, as the bars had been altered in appearance to evade detection.
As the passenger attempted to smuggle the undeclared gold, the authorities confiscated the items in accordance with customs regulations.
The recovered gold ornaments have since been handed over to airport customs for further legal action.
