A fourth-grade student has sentenced to a juvenile centre for allegedly raping a fellow second-grade girl of the same school in Nalta union of Kaliganj upazila in Satkhira.

Confirming the incident, Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman said a case has been filed and the accused has kept in jail for a day following a court order. He will be taken to the Juvenile Correctional Centre in Jashore tomorrow.

The incident occurred around 3:30pm on Friday (16 May).

According to the victim's mother, her daughter had gone to a date palm orchard behind their house. The accused—a resident from the same area and a student at the same school—was already waiting in the orchard.

He reportedly lured her in to a secluded area with the promise of dates and then raped her. Before leaving, he allegedly threatened to kill her if she spoke about the incident.

The girl did not disclose anything immediately after returning home out of fear. Later in the evening, when she began experiencing pain and excessive bleeding, she told her mother what had happened.

She was initially taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex and was later referred to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

Dr Rupa Rani Pal of Kaliganj Health Complex confirmed the referral, citing the girl's condition.

Upon learning of the incident, locals detained the accused and handed him over to the police. The victim's father filed the case as the complainant.

The accused's father confirmed the case filed against his son, but did not comment further on the matter.

The girl remains under treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

Note: This article has been corrected. It earlier stated that the fourth-grader had been jailed. He was, instead, sent to a juvenile correctional centre.
