Former Chhatra Dal leader narrowly escapes gun attack in Narayanganj

A former leader of Chhatra Dal, the student wing of BNP, narrowly escaped injury after two unidentified men riding a motorcycle opened fire on his car in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj yesterday (1 February).

The shooting occurred around 8pm near Araihazar Bazar as Amir Hossain, a former president of Mahmudpur union Chhatra Dal, was returning home after participating in a BNP election campaign.
Amir, who is now a businessman, was accompanied by Sadequr Rahman, joint general secretary of Mahmudpur union Jubo Dal, during the incident, the OC said, adding that Amir was the apparent target of the attack.
No casualties were reported in the incident, the OC confirmed.
Describing the attack, Sadequr said two youths on a motorcycle fired several rounds at their moving vehicle on the Gopaldi-Mahmudpur bypass road, about half a kilometre from Araihazar Police Station.
"As the car was in motion, the bullets did not hit us," he added.
OC Alauddin said police visited the scene immediately after receiving a verbal complaint and took the vehicle into custody. Legal action will be taken against those involved, he said.
