Ex-state minister Khalid sued in case over attack on student protesters

A case has been filed against Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, former MP of Dinajpur-2 constituency and former state minister for Shipping, related to an attack on students during recent protests.
The case, filed at Bochaganj Police Station, also accused 24 leaders and activists, and 75 unnamed.
In connection with this case, the Awami League's Upazila Chairman, Afshar Ali, was arrested and sent to jail with a remand petition through the court on Saturday.
Earlier today, Faisal Mostak, the upazila coordinator, filed a case for involvement in an attack on a student protesters on 18 July.
In a separate incident, Upazila Chairman Afshar Ali attempted to file a case against students at Bochaganj Police Station on 16 August, accusing them of attacking his house and business establishment.
Upon hearing the news, students surrounded the police station, demanding his arrest and resignation from the chairman's position. The situation was defused with the intervention of the army, after which Afshar Ali announced his resignation.
Abu Bakkar Siddique Russel, officer-in-charge of Bochaganj Police Station, confirmed that the Upazila Chairman was arrested in connection with the student case and was sent to jail with a remand application today.
