Former Narayanganj District Chhatra Dal president Zakir Khan was released from jail on bail.

The former JCD leader walked out from the Narayanganj jail at around 10:15am, said Jail super Md Forkan Wahid.

Hundreds of his followers received him at the jail gate in a showdown and paraded the city in a motorcade involving hundreds of motorcycles and cars.

Zakir was shifted to the Narayanganj jail from Kashimpur jail on 19 March.

Traffic congestion was seen on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road following the showdown.

According to the court sources, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Zakir from Dhaka's Bashundhara area on 3 September 2022.

He was wanted in 33 cases, including four murder cases. Later, he secured bail from all the cases in phases.

On 7 January, a court acquitted him in a case of killing businessman Sabbir Alam.
