The principal of the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) in Dhanmondi, along with two security guards, have been detained on allegations of obstructing a presiding officer from performing his duties at a polling centre set up at the institution.
The detainees are MA Mazid, principal of IST, and two guards, Kiron and Tanzil.
The matter was confirmed today (11 February) by assistant commissioner (AC) of police for Dhanmondi Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Shah Mostafa Tarikuzzaman.
He said the presiding officer went to the IST building to carry out his duties and asked a guard to open the principal's room, but the guard refused to unlock it or hand over the key, leading to their detention on charges of non-cooperation.
