Cox’s Bazar OC suspended as drug dealer dies in police custody

Cox's Bazar Sadar police station's Officer-in-Charge Shahjahan Kabir has been suspended after a contraband yaba trader died in police custody.

Additional Superintendent (administration) of Cox's Bazar police Md Iqbal Hossain confirmed The Business Standard on Tuesday.

According to witnesses, the victim, Nabi Hossain, 38, was selling yaba tablets in Kharulia Bazar on Monday and some locals tried to seize him at that time. But he tried to flee the scene, attacking the locals with a sharp weapon. However, the locals managed to catch him and informed police after beating him badly.

Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Khairuzzaman said, "On information, police rescued the injured yaba trader, brought him to the police station and gave first aid."

On Tuesday morning, he fell sick and was admitted to Sadar Hospital, where he passed away.

"A case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act," said Khairuzzaman, adding, "There are two more cases against him."
