Cumilla drug dealer announces to quit business publicly over loudspeaker
The move has been warmly welcomed by locals

A drug dealer in Cumilla, Md Monir Hossen, 50, locally known as "Yaba Monir", publicly announced he would quit his business and drug consumption via loudspeaker at a public event.
He made the announcement yesterday (15 March) afternoon at an anti-drug event held at Kalpabash field, organised by the villagers of Kalpabash in Brahmanpara upazila.
The move has been warmly welcomed by locals.
Locals say Monir, a resident of Kalpabash village, had been involved in the drug trade for over 30 years. However, he has now realised his mistakes and expressed a strong commitment to leaving the dark world behind.
At the event, Monir publicly sought forgiveness over a loudspeaker for his past crimes and pledged to live a normal life, socially integrating with everyone.
The anti-drug rally was chaired by former freedom fighter commander Haji Nurul Islam. The chief guest was Md Abu Taher, former principal of Cumilla Victoria Government College.
Special guests included the former senior vice president of the upazila BNP, Kazi Shah Alam Khokon; president of the press club, Syed Ahmed Lavlu; general secretary, Faruk Ahmed; and union council member Md Siddiqur Rahman.
