CMP arrests suspect in Bakalia murder linked to drug trade conflict
Police have recovered foreign-made pistol, 3 rounds of ammunition from his possession

A murder suspect was arrested and a foreign-made pistol, along with three rounds of live ammunition, was recovered during a special operation by the Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) in the city's Bakalia area last night (27 July).
The arrestee, Md Sumon (19), is allegedly involved in the murder of Md Mohiuddin, 45. The killing occurred on 25 July near the western side of 5 No. Bridge on Arakan Road, Bakalia, reportedly due to a conflict over drug trade control and personal rivalry.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspectors Fazle Rabbi Kaisar and Nure Alam Siddique of the DB's North-South Division made the arrest around 9:10pm during an anti-narcotics and illegal arms operation, according to a press release from the CMP.
As the team approached the Shah Amanat Bridge intersection under Bakalia Police Station, two men attempted to flee. After a brief chase, officers detained Sumon. The second suspect managed to escape.
Sumon initially gave conflicting statements about his presence in the area but later admitted, during interrogation, to being involved in the murder of Md Mohiuddin.
Sumon also identified the fugitive accomplice as Md Asif, 26, and disclosed the location of the murder weapon. Acting on this information, police recovered a black, foreign-made automatic pistol from Abu Saudagar Colony, concealed beneath bricks near a canal wall.
The weapon, described as an old black automatic pistol with an 8-inch barrel engraved with the markings "NO-1711", "AUTO PISTAL", and "MADE IN USA", was found with a magazine containing three rounds of live ammunition stamped "KF 7.65".
Legal action has been initiated against both suspects. Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest Md Asif.
